About
One person. Five principles.
A boutique web studio in Romania, run by a single architect and developer. Five written principles and one promise: the relationship is judged at month six, not on go-live day.
The story
The same rigour online as in the thing you actually sell.
NORTHPIXEL DEVELOPMENT is a web development studio in Romania, built on a simple idea: how a business is met online deserves the same rigour as the product or the service that business exists for.
We work boutique. We turn down projects we do not fit, we hold one standard across the parts people see and the parts they never will, we say the uncomfortable thing when it needs saying, and we stay operational after launch. We build only what contributes to the result. Our own ideas go through the same test.
We are not a volume agency, not a DIY platform, and not a freelancer on call. We are a technical partner for people who treat being found online as a strategic investment rather than a tactical expense, and who understand that the discipline of month one is what shows in month six.
The operator
One architect and developer. Nobody in between.
NORTHPIXEL DEVELOPMENT is run by a single architect and developer. The choice is deliberate: you speak directly to the person building the thing, with no intermediary and no context lost on the way.
The model has a cost we accept: capacity is small, and every project takes concentrated attention. In exchange, nothing gets diluted through layers of project management, the technical decisions are made by the person who will maintain them, and responsibility for the result is not distributed onto anyone else.
That person has a name: Radu Ioan Ciobanu. He builds from strategy to infrastructure, with a declared preference for what lasts: simple architecture, decisions that can be explained, long collaborations. If we work together, he is who you speak to on day one and again at month six.
His experience comes from production: he runs a large network of online publications day to day, with servers managed directly, security, performance and automations running around the clock. Real infrastructure, with real traffic.
He builds end to end: interfaces in Astro and Next.js, services and APIs in Node, PostgreSQL databases, AI content pipelines and internal dashboards. From the idea to the server, with nothing handed off.
A client outside Romania gets exactly the same process as one at home. The work happens in English, within the same business hours as the rest of Europe.
The name
A pixel that sits above the rest.
The pixel is the fundamental unit of anything digital. “North” adds the idea of a fixed point of reference: a pixel that sits above the rest through the quality of how it is built.
The name is not explained up front. Those who notice the footer get the discovery as a reward for paying attention.
How we operate, concretely
Internal decision filters, not a marketing manifesto.
Each principle costs something when you defend it: clients turned down, unbillable hours, uncomfortable conversations. If it costs nothing, it is not a principle, it is a slogan.
- 01
Selectivity.
We take work deliberately, not opportunistically. The first filter is whether we are the right fit, and that filter runs both ways, applied on the first call. Turning down a project that does not fit is not politeness, it is protection for both sides.
The cost
clients turned down, less revenue in the short term.
- 02
Standard.
The level of execution stays constant, whatever the visibility of the component. What nobody sees gets the same rigour as what everybody sees: performance, accessibility, code architecture, the small edges of an interface. We refuse the distinction between “good enough for the client” and “up to our own standard”.
The cost
unbillable hours spent on quality that is not noticed straight away.
- 03
Transparency.
Problems are raised as they appear, with argued alternatives. A delay announced in time, a technical decision explained in terms of risk, a recommendation against our own immediate interest: all of it is part of the service, not a deviation from it.
The cost
uncomfortable conversations, friction accepted on purpose.
- 04
Continuity.
Launch does not end the engagement. Monitoring in production, maintenance and the evolution of the product are written into the contract, not improvised afterwards. Responsibility is measured six months after launch, not on go-live day.
The cost
capacity held for clients already signed, at the expense of new projects.
- 05
Discipline.
Every feature added answers a concrete need of the business. Complexity that produces no value, including the complexity we proposed ourselves, is cut from the scope. Simplicity asks for more rigour than complexity, not less.
The cost
a scope smaller at the end of the brief than the one discussed at the start.
08 / Contact
Let's talk. Honestly, no pressure.
A structured brief if the project is already shaped, or a short message if you are only at the beginning. We reply within two working days. If we are not the right people for it, we will say so plainly.
